A 17 year old girl from Sweet escaped from her car and swam to shore after she lost control and plunged into the Payette River on Highway 42. Idaho State Police say she drove too close to the edge of the roadway and the front tire of her car went off the shoulder, she then over-corrected and lost control of the car and went down a 42-foot embankment, hitting rocks before flipping over.
The girl, who was wearing a seat belt, climbed up the embankment and flagged down a motorist who called police. The Teen was not injured, police credit the seat belt for saving her life.
