Saeed Abedini Is Released

Boise Pastor Saeed Abedini has been released by the Iranian Government.  The release was part of a prisoner swap between the American Government and the Iranian Government. 

Farsnews reported that Americans Jason Rezaian, Amir Hekmat, and Nosratollah Khosrawi Roudsari have been released with Saeed.  The United States Government will return six Iranians who were held here according to the Washington Post.

Saeed had been held by the Iranian Goverment since July 2012.  He was there helping to build orphanages in Iran.  His wife Naghmeh has been advocating for his release for several years.  She has traveled the world raising awareness about her husband's plight.

Naghmeh Abedini has confirmed on Facebook that her husband has been released.  "It is confirmed: Saeed is released!!!"  The details of the prisoner exchange have not been announced at this time.

She released a statement from the American Center for Law and Justice.  “This has been an answer to prayer. This is a critical time for me and my family. We look forward to Saeed's return and want to thank the millions of people who have stood with us in prayer during this most difficult time.”

Senator Ted Cruz shared his reaction with FOX News Radio, "We don't know the details of the deal that is bringing him home and they may well be some problematical aspects to this deal, but at least this morning I'm giving thanks that Pastor Saeed is coming home and is far later than it should have been, but we will be glad to welcome him home."

No word on when Saeed will return to Boise.
