Canyon County Sheriff Kieran Donahue says his office will host a town hall meeting at Nampa City Hall April 1 to discuss the proposed expansion of the Canyon County Jail.
The public is invited to weigh in on the potential expansion plan and discuss concerns with the sheriff and his staff regarding the proposed concept.
The county has made several attempts to pass bonds to fund a new jail but have never received the needed supermajority. Canyon County commissioners are now suggesting a plan that would expand the existing jail next to the courthouse using $13.5 million in available funds and without need of voter approval.
A selection committee is slated to meet with three contractors interested in taking on the project.
