CALDWELL — Caldwell City Council president Jim Blacker died Sunday morning from a heart attack, according to Theresa Hardin, executive director of the Caldwell Chamber of Commerce.
Blacker was raised in Caldwell and graduated from Caldwell High, according to the city's website. He earned his business degree from Brigham Young University and owned and operated Blacker’s Appliance and Furniture, which later changed to Ashley Furniture Homestore.
Blacker served on Caldwell's planning and zoning commission, library board, Friends of the Depot Board and economic development board in addition to the city council. He was first elected to the council in 2003 after being appointed in June 2002.
Blacker was married to his wife, Sheri, for more than 40 years. They have six children.
Rob Hopper, currently vice president of the council, will likely become its president.
