Boise State threw it's hat into the ring to be the next member of the Big 12 conference last month.

But according to the Idaho Statesman, the Broncos have been eliminated from consideration for membership in the athletic conference.  The Big 12 is currently home to power houses like Baylor, TCU and Oklahoma.

University President Bob Kustra's statement explains that conversations with the Big 12 never went deep enough to examine what a relationship between the Broncos and the conference looked like for either party. The Idaho Statesman goes on to say that in a follow-up letter to the Big 12 commissioner, Kustra went on to cite the expanding popularity of BSU's brand beyond the Treasure Valley and their success in football as reasons to be considered.

Boise State's Mountain West opponents Air Force and Colorado State were selected to move on to the next round of consideration.
