More than 2,000 fish were found dead in a Boise pond in Redwood Park near Ustick Road between North Five Mile and Cloverdale roads over the weekend and state officials say the heat is likely to blame.

Idaho Fish and Game said the shallow pond mixed with triple-digit heat caused the water to heat which killed the blue gill, bass, carp and several other species.

Boise Parks and Recreation removed around 20 bags of fish. Officials say they will be back to get more fish once the rest of them float to the edges of the pond.
